I would like to feed my dog a well balanced diet that is the optimum available. I have an 80 pound Chocolate Lab female and I want something to keep her joints in good health as well. I’m not sure which is the best organic dog food as I have never fed her any organic or natural foods..she is on Science Diet right now and I have heard recently some not good things about that. Tell me how your pets have responded to organic foods.

science diet is CRAP…………….
vets recommend this stuff because they get a 40 percent profit on what they sell………………
innova, canidae, solid gold, california natural, wellness are a few good choices. I feed raw and i believe raw is best, but innova is fed when my kids have to feed them. my dogs are extremely healthy, no health problems whatsoever and have shiny coats. They are active and live long healthy lives………. they do go to vet for checkups and the vet says they are extremely healthy in every way.
If science diet is a good food then why have i had three dogs that were fed science diet have food allergies???? when put on the raw diet the allergies went away.
I got the info on science diet FROM my vet that is A GOOD FRIEND of mine……………..
Science Diet is not a bad food, but there is better out there.
I have had great results with Nutro Ultra, which is the Nutro line of holistic foods. Its loaded in glucosamine, omega 3′s, and lots of micro nutrients=all good for joints.
By the way, I work for a vet and we sell Science Diet (among others) and do not get any kick back or discounts other than cheap prices on the dry food we buy in bulk to feed in hospital.
Many vets recommend SD because it has many years of research behind it. Vets can either recommend diets in one of two ways. Either through personal experience or research reputation.

try innova evo… i did some research on which is the best food to feed my boxer(he is 80lb too:))… it has no chemical preservatives, balanced, and 42% protein no grain food and all natural. my boxer is 3 years old he’s been on this food and milk since he is born and he is doing very well and healthy, his coat is very shinny… try this and you will see difference in a week or two the people i told saw difference in their energy and coat and the poo:) (they poo smaller and firmer, wait at least a week to adjust though because when ever you switch food they go diarrhea)
look up their web page for all ingredients.

I have read the previous answers and agreee with parts of them. SOme of the foods I am not familiar with since they are not available in Canada.’
I would look into:
Nutro’s Ultra
Wellness
Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance
or (if you can pay the price) Royal Canin for Labs
Personally, I am NOT a fan of Scient Diet. I believe it is over rated.
I also am a believer in the raw diet. You can buy raw frozen food for your dog that contains no additives. However, it also does not contain some of the elements of high quality kibble, such as “glucosamine, chondroitin (for joint mobility) and/or omega 3 fatty acids for skin and coat”
Castor and Pollux Organix Chicken kibble
AvoDerm Chicken and Rice kibble
